Verbal Imagery
Verbal imagery is a powerful form of communication, and Miramontes includes it as a deeper level of expression to emphasize key aspects of her paintings. She puts down impressions, expressions, phrases, poems and words, which become integral parts of the compositions in their own right.
A Personal Response to Paradise
This verbal imagery is a reflection of her internal responses to the unfolding revelation of Earthly paradise she found through her research. Many of the artist's own poems are incorporated into the artwork, making each piece a deeply personal expression of self.
The next time you stand in front of one of her canvases, look for the words. They are part of the painting's voice.
